This leads to many health problems. 2021-05-29T01:18:35+03:00 Added an answer on 29.05.21 01:18 Improper feeding leading to overweight; failing to neuter or spay; neglecting regular veterinary care and innoculations; pens/cages too small; being dumb enough to have cats declawed….seem pretty careless to me. 2021-05-28T21:33:39+03:00 Added an answer on 28.05.21 21:33 There are many ways people can hurt their pet cats out of ignorance, naivete, stupidity. Declawing . This is a horrific, barbaric, inadmissible, atrocious, unjustified procedure that has been banned in many countries. I am shocked that there are still many vets in the US who endorse declawing. Claws are an essential part of a cat’s identity. A cat loves his/her claws. A kitty likes to grab stuff, play, de-stress using his/her claws. Not to mention that claws are pretty much the only defense a cat has. Cats are vulnerable, contrary to popular belief. They do not have nine lives (I wish they had). I f***ing hate people who declaw their cats and leave them outside, defenseless. All things being equal, a cats fully equipped with claws has a much better chance to survive a dog attack than a declawed cat. Someone told me that a declawed cat was left outside and a pack of dogs ripped him apart and while he was desperately trying to climb a tree but he couldn’t, because his piece-of-sh*t owner had declawed him. Also, claws can literally make a difference between life and death. A cat with claws can attack an aggressor and gain just those two seconds that allow him to escape. So, cats should NEVER be declawed. Doesn’t matter. Your cat is more important than any stupid Ikea sofa. Letting stupid kids terrorize your cat . Most kids are terrible with cats and cat owners should be extremely protective of their cats. I hate most kids so they never come to visit me, but if they were to visit me and they tried to chase, scare, terrorize my cat, I would become violent. So, don’t let kids near your cats unless you are 100% sure that the kid loves kitties (and there are kids who are gentle with animals, I am not saying there aren’t) Vasistas windows . These are very deadly for cats. Cats get trapped in the open vasistas window and the gravity pushes their body down (towards the narrower part of the opening). While they try to escape, any movement will compress their internal organs and they will agonize. Recliners and sofa beds . You have no idea how many cats have died because of stupid recliners and sofa beds, especially if you have guests over and they are not used to being super careful and cognizant of cats hiding. My friend’s cat was killed by her guest who closed the sofa bed on her. Never, ever, ever use recliners or sofa beds. Minoxidil . The popular hair loss lotion is deadly for cats because they lack the enzyme necessary to metabolize it. Of course, nobody would apply Minoxidil on cats, duh. However, if you apply it on your hair and then the cat sleeps on the same pillow you had rested your head on, or if he gets close to your head and then licks himself, the toxicity can be deadly. Just use oral minoxidil which is much more effective and not risky for your kitties. Bringing dogs home thinking that everything will be alright. Dogs should be introduced to cats, very, very, very, very gradually and always under supervision. No matter how friendly and meek the dog seems to be, you can never be too careful. This doesn’t apply to dogs and cats who have been living together for years. Some people bring medium-size dogs home and expect everything to be ok because the dog hasn’t shown aggression, but they leave for 15 minutes, and the stupid dog kills the cats. A lot of dog owners are arrogant and would want to bring their dogs to your home to terrorize your cats. I told someone who wanted to bring their aggressive pitbull home not to, and he found it funny because the pitbull was cat-aggressive. I told him that I would have used my machete or chainsaw to stop any possible attack. And, I totally mean it. I would use lethal force to stop a dog attacking a cat. I don’t let any dog here, not even a chihuahua. I don’t care. This is my home and my cats should feel safe. Leaving cats outside or on balconies and saying, “oh, they are not stupid.” I hate, hate, hate that response. It’s very disrespectful towards millions of cats who have died tragically. A cat doesn’t fly. If you let him perch on a balcony of a high-story building, all it takes is a butterfly or insect to distract the cat and have him fall down. In most cases, falling down is fatal or the cat will need extensive surgery. When you live him outside and say “he just stays in the area”, it doesn’t mean crap. A car, a dog, a psychopath can be in your area. Giving cats cow’s milk. Cats are lactose intolerant. I have no idea where this myth that cats love cow’s milk originated from, but it’s bad for kitties. 2021-05-31T18:13:53+03:00 Added an answer on 31.05.21 18:13 Dumping them outside to fend for themselves thinking they will be just fine! Many 6 month to a year old kittens are brought to the humane society as strays; perfectly socialized but unfixed! The females are usually pregnant. People get that cute kitten and when they realize the cost of spay/neuter out the door! They tell themselves that cats can find food and shelter outdoors with no human help. 2021-05-28T20:45:18+03:00 Added an answer on 28.05.21 20:45 The one that comes to mind for me is house plants. House plants are very trendy to have in your home right now.. But many, many- I stress- MANY house plants are fatally toxic to cats! It doesn’t help that plants are like literal magnets to cats! If you have a pet cat in the house, ALWAYS do your research before bringing in a new plant. If you’re bringing a new cat into your house, check that your existing plants aren’t harmful. 2021-05-29T02:20:35+03:00 Added an answer on 29.05.21 02:20 1 - Feeding them unhealthy cat food that's high in salt. Salt is very unhealthy for cats. It causes so many health problems such as urinary tract issues. Cat foods that have Salt as an added ingredient are not healthy for them. The salt is added to make cats addicted to the food. Meow Mix is a prime example. This often leads to obesity because they want to overeat. 2 - Feeding them too many treats. Cat treats are are the equivalent of human junk food. They should not be fed treats like they can live off of them. They should not be given more than the recommended daily amount. 3 - Feeding them human food. I dont mean food you catch or grow like vegetable and meat. We don't own that food. Other animals eat that food too. I mean food made for humans, such as processed food and desserts and frozen foods. So much of our food is high in fats and sodium which is horrible for cat health. On top of that, there are many foods they cannot eat, such as onions, which you will find is commonly in our food. 4 - Disciplining them for behavior that's a sign of health problems. When cats start acting weird, it is sometimes a sign that they are in distress due to medical issues. They will howl when in distress. They will run around like something crawled up their butt when fleas are bothering them. They will drag their butts on the floor when there's something on/in their butt (usually worms). They will pee in places they shouldn't when they have urinary tracy issues. Distress from pain will cause them act weird to and even lash out at you and other animals. Disciplining does nothing but cause them more pain. Instead, find a remedy for the problem so that your cat is happier and healthier. 5 - Disciplining them for behavior that's your fault. If the litter box is dirty, you cannot blame them for peeing outside of it. If you haven't fed them or given them water in awhile, you cannot blame them for trying to take care of themselves by getting into the food or chewing water bottles. If you're not giving them enough attention then you cannot blame them for trying to entertain themselves. Disciplining them will only do more harm. Instead, find a remedy for the problem so that your cat is happier and healthier. 6 - Not respecting their boundaries. Cats are living creatures with their own personal boundaries. They have a right to their body and privacy. If they don't want to be picked up or touched or messed with, then DON'T do it (unless it's for their own good) and don't get upset with them for wanting to be left alone. You will cause them to despise you and always be on edge. 7 - Keeping them indoors. Really what I mean is keeping them indoors without access to a window for sunlight and fresh air. Indoor/outdoor cats are way healthier than cats who are left outside or stuck inside. You can remedy this for indoor cats by giving them a comfy, safe access to a window for sunbathing and fresh air. This is very important for their health and happiness. 8 - Not socializing with them enough. Many cats need a lot of attention. They will turn into brats and act out if they get little to no social interaction. Talk to them and pet them. Make them part of the family. Treat them like they are intelligent, because they are more intelligent than people realize. There are also many cats who are content being left alone, but if you give them healthy attention, you will see a whole different side of them and your relationship woth them will become stronger. 9 - Not stimulating them enough This is similar to #8. Cats need mental stimulation. Some more than others. Cat toy puzzles and laser pointers are a great way to stimulate them. Some cats need more mental stimulation than others. Living inside can be a dull life. They will find a way to entertain themselves and you probably won't be happy with how they do it. So take some time everyday to play with your cats. Your bond with them will grow stronger and your cat will be happier. 2021-06-06T03:00:01+03:00 Added an answer on 06.06.21 03:00 There are many sadly. People assume their cats are independent and don’t need attention. They do! People give cats milk. They are lactose intolerant. Letting cats go outside, not knowing about plants and things that can be toxic to cats … that’s just a few!
